Hi There, I’m Opal ✨

On paper, my passion for tech remains, but there is one throughline that has been key to my work: using my superpowers to make the world around me better than I found it. I am a transracial adoptee from foster care as an infant. I’ve been candid online about my lived experiences through my monthly newsletter, The Hanging Loc Chronicles, and radio show, Frequency Noir.

Throughout my career, I’ve continued to champion and amplify voices and create a culture where all people feel empowered to lead and shape inclusive workplaces. The COVID-19 pandemic shifted how we show up in the world, including my own understanding of work, life and where I want to go. Part of this introspection materialized into the pursuit of birth work. I realized I was already embodying it long before I was even aware, so I eventually answered the call to learn more. Since then, I’ve been introduced to a global community of practitioners across the public health / birth work spectrum, many from whom I continue to learn today. The culmination of these interests and connections is how Eponymous Birth Collective was born.

I founded StoryNoir as a space for telling one’s authentic narrative. I embrace the power of storytelling in an unapologetic manner. My desire to make sense of the world has led me to have many exciting and fascinating conversations, which are documented via my writing, podcasting and overall digital footprint.

I hold Associate Degrees in Liberal Arts from Contra Costa College and a B.A in Africana Studies from the University of California, Davis.

I completed Sumi's Touch Birth Worker Apprenticeship as part of the All-Black, Winter ‘22 cohort.
